This is one of my favorite Ted Health LP's and to my knowledge it has never been released on CD.
Personnel according to a UK website:
Ted Heath and his Music: Bobby Pratt, Bert Ezzard, Duncan Campbell, Eddie Blair (tp,) Wally Smith, Don Lusher, Jimmy Coombes, Keith Christie (tmb), Les Gilbert, Ronnie Chamberlain (as), Henry Mackenzie (ts,cl), Red Price (ts), Ken Kiddier (bar), Frank Horrox (p), Johnny Hawksworth (bss), Ronnie Verrell (dms) : Ric Kennedy (tmb) replaces Christie on some tracks London, March 1957
The album claims to be the 12 most played standards on American radio stations as complied by The Billboard magazine. That's probably accurate in 1957. I shudder to think what the list would be today. These are wonderful arrangements of great American standards. Enjoy.

It has been issued on CD and in Stereo.
ReplyDeleteVocalion CDLK 4115 has "Top Twelve" and "Shall We Dance" issued 2001.
Top twelve was recorded 27 April - 3 May 1958
at Broadhurst Gardens, London.
Algy.
Ted Heath - All Time Top Twelve
ReplyDeleteBut - the mono and stereo recordings were different! The mono version was recorded in 1957 and then in 1958 the stereo version was recorded. This was not unheard of when stereo was beginning to catch on. For example, Earl Bostic re-recorded several of his earlier mono albums in stereo in the late 50s.
So that means that the performances here are not the same as the ones on the CD reissue, which makes the post very worthwhile anyway!
